CHARSADDA: Police arrested five transgender people from Bela area of Charsadda district, beaten them and subjected them to electric shocks for performing at a marriage party.

Appealing protection against growing police’s highhandedness, head of Trans Action, a non-governmental organization working for rights of transgender people, Farzana Jan said that transgender people have been banned to perform at parties in several districts.

She said that Zahida, Sana, Sitara, Imli and Spogmai went to Bela area of Charsadda to perform at a marriage ceremony from where they were arrested and taken to police station.

She alleged that the police stated beating them and subjected them to electric shocks for what they claimed spreading vulgarity in society, she said while addressing a press conference here at Peshawar Press Club.

The victims who were also present also shown marks of tortures on their bodies and claimed that the police have also taken Rs50,000 from them

They appealed to Chief Justice Supreme Court of Pakistan, to take notice of torture and order action against the officials of concerned police station.

She said that police in Swat, Nowshera, and Bannu have banned transgender people from attending dance parties.
