LAKKI MARWAT, 23 September: After a polio case reported from Lakki Marwat this week, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department officials said the virus might have been brought from Afghanistan.

Few days ago, KP’s first-ever polio case was reported from Lakki Marwat where a two-year old child tested positive. A team of health experts visited the area after which it wrote a letter to chief secretary KP that virus might have been imported from Afghanistan.

The letter said that the virus was being spread without any measures to contain it in Afghanistan where thousands of children in villages located on border areas were yet to be vaccinated against the crippling disease.

The letter said that hundreds of children from Afghanistan come to Pakistan and pass through southern districts who might have brought the virus to Lakki Marwat.

The health authorities after visiting the area said weak polio virus and strong immunity system of the child saved her from being crippled.
