PESHAWAR, 21 April: Chinese President Xi Jinping has addressed a joint session of the Parliament of Pakistan.

On his arrival to the Parliament House today, the Chinese president was welcomed by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Senate Chairman Mian Raza Rabbani and other leaders.

Before addressing the Parliament session, the Chinese president held meeting with the NA speaker and Senate chairman and discussed matters of mutual interests. Mr Jinping also inaugurated solar power system in the Parliament House before addressing the Pakistani lawmakers.

The Chinese president said in his address that Pak-China friendship is exemplary. He said China will continue support to Pakistan in all circumstances. He said Pakistan was the first Muslim country which recognised the new China after its creation. He said addressing the joint sitting of the Pakistani Parliament is a great honour for him.

Mr Jinping said Pakistan has offered countless sacrifices in the war against terrorism, which will not be forgotten.

The joint session was attended by the prime minister, Senate chairman, other lawmakers, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif, chief ministers of four provinces and foreign envoys. The Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan also attended the session.

The Chinese president is scheduled to hold meetings with different political leaders today.
