PESHAWAR, 28 April: A petition has been moved in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) challenging the citizenship of Member National Assembly from Bajaur Assembly Bismillah Jan and his son Senator Hidayatullah.

The petitioner, Nisarul Haq has also presented documentary evidences in support of his petition in the court and claimed that Bismillah Jan also has Afghan nationality which can be proved from Afghan official documents. He said a relative of Bismillah Jan is a brigadier in the Afghan army, while another relative is working as lieutenant general in Afghanistan. He stated that being Afghan nationals, both the lawmakers were not eligible for membership of the Lower and Upper Houses of Parliament. He said that by concealing their Afghan nationality, giving false undertaking before the returning officers and by taking false oath before the National Assembly speaker and Senate chairman, respectively, both the respondents were no longer Sadiq and Ameen.

The petitioner prayed the court to order National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), Intelligence Bureau (IB), Interior Ministry and other concerned departments to verify the evidences from Afghanistan and both the lawmakers should be disqualified in case their Afghan nationality is established.
