PESHAWAR, 14 December: Speakers at a seminar urged the federal and provincial governments to include civil society representatives in strategic policy making forums in order to serve the people in a better way in case of any disaster.

The seminar was organized by National Humanitarian Network to suggest recommendations on policies and initiatives for humanitarian actors in the light of the National Disaster Management Act.

Apart from representatives of different civil society organizations, Nazim Town-I Zahid Nadeem, PMLN MPA Arbab Waseem, officials of the PDMA, FDMA and UN subsidiary organizations attended the seminar.

The speakers suggested that government should simplify the procedure of issuance of NOC for civil society organizations for a specific project. They added that organizations should be informed about the factors due to which issuance of their NOC was delayed, so that they could address the shortcomings.

They also demanded that the validity of the permits granted to organizations should be extended so that they could concentrate on their projects.

The speakers maintained that offices of some of the NGOs were closed due to forced dislocation and urged the federal and provincial governments to provide them alternate locations for offices.

Nazim Town-I Zahid Nadeem and MPA Arbab Waseem assured the civil society representatives of their full support on behalf of their respective political parties.
