BARA: A painting competition was held among school students in Khyber tribal district in connection with International Day of Peace on Saturday.

The competition was arranged at Khyber Public School Qambarabad under the aegis of Khadimul Haq Foundation in Bara sub-division. In the competition, Habib Khan got first position, Fawad got second position and Nida Gul obtained third position.

Through their paintings, the students highlighted the issue of climate change which poses threat to environment and future generation. The paintings drew the attention of concerned quarters to make planning to counter the challenge of climate change. Saqib Afridi, Dr Abdul Wahab and Asghar Khan distributed prizes among the students who got first, second and third position in the competition.

Khadimul Haq Foundation Chairman Farooq Afridi said on the occasion that the whole world observed the International Day of Peace with theme “Climate Action for Peace”. He said the competition was organised by his organisation on the occasion of World Peace Day as this area saw very difficult times during militancy and military operations during the last few years. He said the law and order issues put negative impacts on the minds of the people of the area, particularly the children of the region.

Farooq Afridi said activities like painting competitions will shift the minds of the youth towards positive activities. He said climate change poses greater threat than terrorism that is why the authorities need to take this issue very seriously. He said the painting exhibition was also organised with a purpose to create awareness about the dangers posed by global warming.

Several events were organised in different parts of Pakistan on the occasion of the International Day of Peace which was observed this year with the theme of “Climate Action for Peace”.

According to the information available on official website of UN Peace Day, Peace can only be achieved if concrete action is taken to combat climate change. United Nations believe that climate change has become a clear threat to international peace and security.

International Day of Peace-2019 is devoted to all those people who have done their best efforts to bring peace in their communities or nations.
