PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan on Saturday directed the provincial inspection team to investigate the causes behind the delay of Bus Rapid Transit Project Peshawar completion, said a statement issued from the chief minister house.

The CM ordered to furnish a comprehensive report fixing responsibilities so that action could be initiated against the responsible officials. It was further added that the BRT is a project launched for the underprivileged segment of the society; therefore all efforts should be made to highlight the causes of the delay and punish the responsible persons.

The directives are issued after the KP government failed to meet another deadline of March 23 set for the inauguration of the project. However, unlike the past, this time, the inauguration was delayed for an unspecified time period and public was just told the project will be inaugurated at its completion.

After failing to meet the March 23 deadline, KP governments’ minister for information has launched a ‘test drive’ on the route and said that it was due to the month-long heavy rains due to the work could not be completed on the specified date.

The Chief Minister asked the KP inspection team to investigate the matter and identify the reasons for the falling short of the datelines.

“This is the project specially designed for common men to find a durable solution to the long standings traffic problems,” said the statement. It is further added that due to the continuous delay in the inauguration; the public is unsatisfied which is not acceptable to the provincial government.

The statement, while quoting the Chief Minister, said that all in the projects have an earlier committed dateline of completion which must be followed and projects’ officials should be honest and committed to the completion of the projects of public importance on time.
