PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mehmood Khan on Thursday fixed a monthly stipend for a boy, who plies rickshaw on Peshawar’s roads to earn a livelihood for his family.
Chief Minister has invited the young child to the CM house and promised to extend all possible support for him and his family if he continues his study.
A video went viral on TNN last night showing a young boy who is operating Rickshaw to feed his family. The Chief Minister met the child and gave him Rs 100,000 in cash to support his family.
On this occasion, CM Mehmood Khan announced that the child’s family will be given a monthly stipend of Rs 20,000 and will be admitted to school, all of which will be paid by the Chief Minister himself.
A few days back, the video of the child driving a three-wheeler went viral while the City Traffic Police were taking action against the younger driver for violating the traffic rules. When asked by a traffic policeman, the resident of Bakhshu Pul area said that he has been operating the rickshaw for the last five months and use to earn Rs 300 to 400 a day which is hardly enough for the livelihood of his family members.
The child said that his father is suffering from kidney disease and is the eldest of the brothers in the family with no other sources of income. The young driver was sobbing saying that he had six sisters to feed and requested the traffic warden to allow him to earn for their living.
When the official asked the child if he gets Rs 5,000 a month, it would be enough for the cost of his family? However, the boy said no, it will not be enough. After hearing this, the warden allowed him to go without giving him a challan on which the boy happily started his three-wheeler and went away in search of passengers.
