PESHAWAR, September 22: A social welfare organization, Al-Khidmat Foundation, arranged collective weddings of 25 underprivileged couples in the provincial capital Peshawar.
The ceremony was held at Markaz-e-Islami, headquarters of the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI). Al-Khidmat Foundation is social welfare wing of the JI.
JI chief Mr Sirajul Haq solemnised nikah (wedlock). TNN correspondent says the couples included three families displaced from North Waziristan and other agencies.
At the wedding ceremony, each couple was given dowry worth rupees 150,000 rupees. One of the grooms told TNN, “I had got engaged in 2010 but was unable to marry due to lack of financial resources. I am a labourer, I am graeful to the Al-Khidmat Foundation.”
