CHITRAL, 5 November: Compensation cheques of Rs600,000 each were distributed among the heirs of those who lost lives in the 26 October earthquake in Chitral on Wednesday.
A ceremony in this regard was organised at the Bypass Road where the deputy commissioner distributed compensation cheques among the earthquake victim families. He assured the quake affected people that the injured people and those whose houses were damaged in the catastrophe will also be given compensation soon.
On the other hand, the people of Osek area of Darosh tehsil in Chitral have complained that they have not received any government help so far. They said 80 houses in the area were destroyed in the quake but the people who were rendered homeless haven’t received any ration or other support from the government.
A local person said no one from the government side has come to his house to help him. “The government teams had earlier written our names after damages in the floods, but we haven’t received any aid so far from any quarter,” he told TNN.
A widow said her house has also been damaged in the quake. She appealed to the government help her in reconstruction of her house.
