PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Shah Farman has announced establishment of a complaints cell at Governor House Peshawar to address issues regarding public sector universities.
In a tweet, the governor, who is also chancellor of public sector universities, asked the people of KP to register their complaints with the ‘Governor KP Complaint Cell’ by calling on the phone number 091-9211200.
The governor has directed the authorities of the complaint cell to listen to grievances of people regarding universities and take prompt action.
“Citizens of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa can now register their complaints against public sector universities of KP on Governor KP Complaint Cell via 091-9211200. I have directed complaint cell to listen people grievances regarding universities and prompt action will be taken. IA,” the governor’s tweet reads.
Shah Farman also shared details about procedure of lodging complaints on his Twitter account. The details mentioned that all kinds of complaints against public sector universities of KP, including harassment, irregularities in appointments, financial embezzlement, can be submitted in the complaints cell. These complaints can be registered during normal office timings on phone number 091-9211200. The citizens can also send their complaints on the address of complaints cell, Governor House, Peshawar, KP.
The establishment of complaints cell was considered long overdue owing to increasing incidents of harassment in different universities. Another main problem in public sector universities is that it is a general perception that all appointments are not made purely on merit and corruption, nepotism and favouritism is common. Some kind of accountability system was considered inevitable to rein in the alleged corrupt practices and harassment cases.
The students and parents have welcomed the establishment of the complaints cell and hoped that it will work efficiently according to its mandate to reduce corruption, mismanagement and harassment in public sector universities.
The establishment of governor’s complaint cell coincided with yet another protest by the female students of Islamia College University on Wednesday against the increasing incidents of alleged harassment by teachers of the university.
The protest was also attended by a large number of male students who fully supported the demands of female students. The male and female students held a rally and chanted slogans against the university administration.
