PESHAWAR, 25 May: Residents of Dilazak Road and Charsadda Road held a protest demonstration outside the Peshawar Wapda House to mark their indignation against “elongated” power outages in their respective areas.
They said they submit their power bills timely but despite that they are subjected to around 20-hour power breakdowns. They threatened to block the Grand Truck Road for vehicular traffic if the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) kept on carrying unannounced power outages in their areas.
“The Pesco authorities send us bill randomly without taking the reading from power metres, but we all pay electricity bills. But despite that there is massive power breakdowns in our areas,” said a demonstrator.
Another protestor said: “We are faced with a lot of problems due to power outages. We don’t have water for ablution and drinking. We extend all help to power authorities but to no avail. We request the power authorities to seek a negotiated solution to the issue of power outages by sitting with our elders.”
A few days back, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak had said that the provincial government has reached a deal with the Pesco that there would be no power outages on 126 power feeders of the province.
