PESHAWAR: Abbottabad has emerged as the district with highest coronavirus positivity ratio in the country with 40.32 percent.

The positivity ratio is determined on the basis of positive cases appearing in 100 samples of COVID-19 patients. On Tuesday, as many as 2,398 coronavirus patients were stated to be in critical condition across the country with the number of critical patients rising at a fast pace.

After Abbottabad, the second highest positive ratio was recorded in Hyderabad with 22.12 percent and Karachi 12.54 percent, according to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC).

The positivity ratio in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa stands at 5.67 percent, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) at 4.32 percent, Balochistan 10.67 percent, Gilgit-Baltistan 1 percent, Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) 3.41 percent, Punjab 4.22 percent and Sindh at 6.29 percent. Peshawar has positivity ratio of 4.03 percent and Swat 4.61 percent.

A total of 9,474 deaths have been recorded with prevailing fatality rate of 2.05 percent against the global death rate of 2.20 percent. Around 70 percent of the victims were male with 77.5 percent over the age of 50 years with age median of 61 years. Out of the total deceased corona patients, 91 percent remained hospitalised.

Female medical student dies of corona

A female medical student of Khyber Medical College (KMC) Peshawar died of coronavirus on Tuesday.

According to Provincial Doctors Association (PDA), the first year medical student, Sana Riaz, was on ventilator at the intensive care unit (ICU) ward of Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC) and died on Tuesday morning.

After the medical student’s death, the total number of doctors’ deaths in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reached to 39. Sana is the second medical student in KP who died of corona.

The PDA says the provincial government has not provided Shaheed package to any deceased doctor’s family so far. Further details released by the PDA reveal that 1,160 doctors and 410 nurses have contracted coronavirus so far in KP while playing the role of frontline force against the pandemic. Four nurses have also died of corona in KP. As many as 1,150 members of paramedical staff and Class-IV employees working in different hospitals have also contracted coronavirus.
