PESHAWAR: The death toll from COVID-19 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reached 561 as 20 new deaths were reported on Saturday.

According to latest data shared by the KP Health Department, as many as 542 new cases were confirmed in the province during the last 24 hours, taking the tally to 13,001. The new infections include 26 from those who have returned to KP via different international flights. Out of 20 new deaths, 12 have been reported in Peshawar, two each in Bajaur, Buner, Battagram and one each in Nowshera and Haripur.

The Health Department said a total of 3,450 patients have recovered so far including 145 during the last 24 hours.

Peshawar remains the most affected district of KP with 300 deaths, more than half of the total death toll in the province. The total confirmed cases in the metropolis have reached 4,757, including 175 fresh cases during the last 24 hours.

According to official data, Swat remains the second most affected district with 52 deaths, Mardan has reported 31 deaths, Abbottabad has reported 22 deaths, Nowshera and Bajaur have reported 20 deaths each, Malakand has reported 17 deaths, Kohat reported 14, Swabi reported 12 and Lower Dir has reported 11 deaths. The death toll in other districts of KP is in single digit figure. Now the overall death toll in KP is at third place after Punjab and Sindh.

The Health Department also said that 40 percent of COVID-19 ICU patients in Abbottabad have recovered.

Countrywide death toll nears 2,000

Death toll from COVID-19 in Pakistan has mounted to 1,998.

As many as 561 deaths have been reported in KP, 683 in Punjab, 634 in Sindh, 54 in Balochistan, 13 in Gilgit-Baltistan, 45 in Islamabad Capital Territory and eight in Azad Kashmir.

The total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Pakistan have mounted to 98,227.

Of these, 36,364 have been reported in Sindh, 37,090 in Punjab, 13,001 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 6,221 in Balochistan, 4,323 in Islamabad Capital Territory, 897 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 331 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

As many as 32,581 patients have recovered from the virus in Pakistan.

The toll of infections in Pakistan has surpassed that of China.
