CorpsCommanderPeshawar inspects Bajaur-Mohmand Highway

Peshawar: Corps Commander Peshawar Lt General Nazir Ahmad Butt visited Mohmand District to inspect the progress of work on Ghallanai-Mamad Ghat Highway today, the press release said. He was accompanied by DG FWO Major General Inam Haider Malik, IG Frontier Corps North Major General Waseem Ashraf.

The 43 KM long Highway, which also includes an 800 meter state of the art tunnel at Nahakki, is part of a greater alignment of the Peshawar-Bajaur highway. The project is said to be in the final stages of completion under the supervision of Frontier Works Organisation (FWO).

It said that the construction of the road picked up pace since July, 2018 because of night shift work and deployment of men and machinery by the FWO. This resulted in carpeting of first layer which improved the ride quality manifold on the remaining 25 km stretch upwards of Nahakki tunnel toward Mamad Ghat.

The traffic inflow has increased from Bajaur, Upper Dir and Lower Dir by almost two to three times since May, 2018. As per district Administration, the improved infrastructure has helped induce economic growth by enhancing trade activities such as mushrooming of hotels , petrol pumps and commercial facilities being erected along the road.

The Corps Commander also met a Jirga of tribal elders on the occasion. The elders expressed gratitude to armed forces for bringing peace and stability in the district  and hailed various initiatives in health and education sectors. The Jirga members appreciated the setting up of a state of the art Type-D Tehsil Headquarter hospital at Mamad Ghat and bringing the Cadet college Mamad Ghat to Mohmand tribal district.

The Corps Commander congratulated them on the merger of FATA with KP and conveyed that it would usher in an era of peace and prosperity for local people.
