PESHAWAR, August 6: The Pakistani Prime Minister, Mr Nawaz Sharif, has met leaders of various political parties to discuss the long march scheduled to be staged by the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) on 14 August, the country’s Independence Day.

The PTI currently rules Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The prime minister met political leaders in the federal capital Islamabad on 6 August. Opposition leader Mr Khurshid Shah, Qaumi Watan Party chief Mr Aftab Sherpao, Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party chief Mehmood Khan Achakzai and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman attended the meeting at the residence Nawaz Sharif.

The meeting participants told the premier that they would not like the democratic setup to be derailed and to fight against any such move collectively.

In a fresh statement, PTI chief Mr Imran Khan has again demanded Mr Sharif to resign as prime minister and hold re-election. He said their long march was meant to overthrow the incumbent government.
