PESHAWAR, 19 December: Deputy Commissioner Peshawar Riaz Mehsud has sent a councillor to jail over putting hurdles in the work of polio vaccination teams.

According to details, councillor of Shagai Hindkian area, Saleem was not only refusing to cooperate with the polio teams but also stopping them from working in his area due to which the deputy commissioner sent him to jail under 3-MPO law.

The deputy commissioner told media that the number of parents refusing to administer polio drops to their children has come down to below 500 due to good performance of the vaccination teams. Mr Mehsud said strict action would be taken against the parents refusing polio vaccination to their children.

The four-day anti-polio campaign has been underway in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA since Thursday.
