PESHAWAR, 18 May: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police have claimed having apprehended a ringleader of the extortion syndicate.

The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police said one Abdul Hameed would demand extortion money from influential people, impersonating himself as a member of an outlawed militant organization.

In the recent past, he demanded Rs. 10 million extortion money from an owner of marriage hall. The marriage hall owner was threatened with dire consequences if his demand was not met. The CTD officials said that the accused belongs to Khyber Agency and he was arrested on a tip-off when he entered Peshawar.
