DERA ISMAIL KHAN, 9 December: Police in Dera Ismail Khan have registered a case against 250 people for staging protest over non-opening of sugar mills.
City Police Station officials said the case has been registered against the protesters for disturbing peaceful environment of the city. Those who have been booked also include Agriculture Chamber head Abdur Rashid Dep, local elders Khizer Hayat Dayal, Haroon Awan, Falak Sher and local councillors.
The local farmers staged a massive protest demonstration on the call of Agriculture Chamber at GPO Chowk two days ago. Several roads remained closed in DI Khan for many hours during the protest of farmers due to which the passengers faced many difficulties.
The protesters had later ended their agitation after assurance by the deputy commissioner and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Revenue Ali Amin Gandapur that the sugar mills will begin crushing of sugar cane soon.
