CHITRAL, 12 December: The people of Chitral have called upon the government to repair the damaged roads and take back the administrative affairs of government hospitals from the non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

The local people said most of the roads in Chitral are in dilapidated condition and most roads lack sidewalls which cause accidents and loss of lives. The people of Mastuj area said the basic health centre used to charge five rupees when it was under the government administration but it now charges Rs110 for chit under the administration of Aga Khan Health Service. They said the poor people of the area cannot afford to pay such a huge fee for medical check up.

A local resident told TNN that accidents routinely happen in the area due to extremely poor condition of roads. “The main reason behind accidents is poor condition of roads. The health centre also has only one stretcher and there is no lady doctor,” he said.

Another resident said they made several demands to the government to construct new roads and repair the existing roads but no one paid any heed.
