MARDAN: District Nazim Mardan, Ihtisham Ali Khan, has formally inaugurated Darul Aman for women in district Mardan’s Mohabbat area on Friday.
Situated near the new jail building, it was announced that women will be shifted to the building after Eidul Azha. It can accommodate a total of 200 women and will provide them with all the basic facilities.
The district Nazim Mardan Ihtisham Khan and Naib Nazim Asad Ali appreciated the step taken by the provincial government and said that it would benefit the victims of violence and homeless women in the district and nearby areas.
Its building has been constructed by the Communication and Works Department (C&W) of KP government. The C&W department has asked the social welfare department to transfer the solar system to solve the electricity load-shedding issue.
The groundbreaking ceremony of the Darul Aman was laid on 21 October 2016 by Ex-District Nazim Himayatullah Mayar. It was initially estimated that it will be completed within one year at a cost of Rs40 million.
Naib Nazim Asad Ali said that its construction became possible due to the efforts of former Nazim Hemayatullah of Awami National Party (ANP). He added the Darul Aman will provide shelter to women in need.
Before this, there was no official arrangement in Mardan to provide shelter to women who left their houses due to domestic violence or some other circumstances. Social activists have appreciated the establishment of Darul Aman as a good step. However, they expressed the need the government should provide all facilities and complete protection of women at the Darul Aman.
The activists expressed the hope that affected by violence will be able to find a safe shelter and they would have access to all facilities of life. The activists also urged the government to provide the Darul Aman adequate security and protection.
