PESHAWAR: 10 more people, including a doctor, died of coronavirus in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the last 24 hours after which the death toll in the province reached 1,473.

KP also reported 357 new coronavirus cases, according to official data. The total toll of corona patients in KP has now reached 52,449. KP has the third highest death toll from corona in Pakistan after Punjab and Sindh.

On Monday, another doctor succumbed to coronavirus in KP. Dr Almas Afridi was admitted to a private hospital after testing positive for COVID-19 few days ago, where she breathed her last on Monday. She was serving at Naseer Teaching Hospital.

According to the Provincial Doctors Association (PDA), 31 doctors have lost their lives in KP while battling with coronavirus.

The death of Dr Almas came two days after a female doctor died of coronavirus in KP.

Professor Dr Zaibun Nisa was under treatment at a private hospital for one week. Dr Zaibun Nisa underwent coronavirus test after showing symptoms and was admitted to hospital after confirmation of the disease. She was shifted to the intensive care unit (ICU) due to her critical condition and she died on Saturday.

According to the PDA, 31 doctors have died of coronavirus in KP so far. It says the provincial government has not provided Shaheed package to any deceased doctor’s family so far. Further details released by the PDA reveal that 1,160 doctors and 410 nurses have contracted coronavirus so far in KP while playing the role of frontline force against the pandemic. Four nurses have also died of corona in KP. As many as 1,150 members of paramedical staff and Class-IV employees working in different hospitals have also contracted coronavirus.

Pakistan’s COVID-19 death toll has surged to 8,832 as the disease claimed 36 more lives during the past 24 hours, official data shows.

Pakistan also reported 2,362 new infections, bringing the total tally to 440,787. The number of active cases in the country has climbed to 47,236, out of whom 2,456 people are under critical condition. With 1,719 surviving the virus, the recoveries have climbed to 384,719.

The government has warned of even stricter restrictions if the standard operating procedures (SOPs) were violated and corona continued to spread rapidly.
