LAKKI MARWAT, 13 August: Police have lodged a case against a doctor after death of a child during a surgery in Lakki Marwat.

TNN correspondent said 10-years-old Abid, resident of Wanda Orangzeb village, was brought to Zakori Hospital by his relatives on Wednesday night where Dr Abdul Waheed suggested a surgery for appendix after conducting ultrasound test. The relatives of Abid waited for several hours outside the operation theatre but got no update about his condition. Finally, the relatives broke into the operation theatre at 9:00pm where they were shocked to see that Abid was lying dead and the doctor along with his staff was missing.

After the incident, the family members of the deceased boy started protest in the hospital against the doctor.

“We brought Abid to hospital after he complained of fever, but the doctor suggested a surgery. We were kept unaware about the death of Abid during surgery. We demand the officials of the Health Department to conduct an inquiry into the matter and punish the responsible people,” a relative of the deceased boy told TNN.

Police soon arrived at the hospital after getting information about the incident. The relatives of the deceased boy later ended their protest after assurance by police that action will be taken against responsible officials. Police later registered a murder case against Dr Abdul Weheed Zakori on the complaint of Haji Quli Khan, grandfather of the deceased boy.

Several deaths had been reported in this hospital during surgeries and anaesthetic overdoze.
