PESHAWAR: After months of legal battle, Aisha Bibi has finally secured the victory as the election commission of Pakistan issued notification of her nomination on women reserved the seat of KP assembly from Mohmand district.
The ECP has issued a notification on Wednesday saying that in pursuance of Article 106 of the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan and Section 104 of the Elections Act, 2017, the election commission of Pakistan publishes the names of returned candidates for the seats reserved for Women in the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The ECP has notified Aisha Bibi on Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) ticket from tribal district Mohmand while Basharat Bibi on Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) from tribal district Khyber on women reserved seats.
Aisha Bibi Nomination was first challenged when a case was submitted to the election tribunal requesting to stop the nomination of Aisha Bibi on women reserved seat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly from tribal districts on the ground that her vote was not registered in tribal districts in time of submission of nomination papers.
The petition was filled by Member Provincial Assembly Nisar Mohmand through advocate Sajeed Khan and Mehrin Afridi through here lawyer Muzamil Shah asking the court that Aisha Bibi’s vote was not registered in the tribal district but her nomination papers were approved by the ECP.
The tribunal has suspended the priority list submitted by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf for reserved seats for women in KP Assembly and ordered ECP to issue notification of Mehreen Afridi as member of KP assembly. Mehreen was on the 3rd number in PTI priority and Wafa Wazir was on 2ND but Wafa was already declared illegible by the ECP, the court has ordered ECP to issue Mehreen notification as MPA.
However, on October 10, PHC set aside the Election Tribunal’s verdict against Aisha Bibi’s nomination as a member the provincial assembly on the Pakistan TehriK-e-Insaf (PTI) nomination on women reserved a seat.
