ECP takes notice of Insaf Rozgar Scheme ahead of election

PESHAWAR: Justice a day the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) issued a show-cause notice to senior provincial minister for his visit to district Kurram, the ECP has issued another notice to Chief Minister for starting Insaf Rozgar loan scheme for tribal districts ahead of the election.

The chief minister in a ceremony in Minister House has formally launched the ‘Insaf Rozgar Scheme’ for tribal districts on Thursday. On the occasion, letters of loans were handed over to the eligible applicants of merged districts by the Chief Minister, Mehmood Khan, who was the chief guest on this occasion.

The ECP believes that this is a violation of election code of conduct as a ban has already been imposed on the announcements of uplift schemes and visits of ministers to areas where the election is going to held on July 20. The ECP has already issued a notice to the provincial government not to carry out any new uplift scheme in tribal districts until the first ever election of tribal districts is held.

The provincial election commission spokesperson while talking to media said that a show-cause notice has been issued in this regard and further action will be taken once the KP government submits its response to the notice.

According to some resources, the ECP has issued a notice prior to the ceremony asking that the ceremony is in violation of the election code of conduct, therefore, it be postponed until the election are held. However, the notice was allegedly ignored by the chief minister house.

The Insaf Rozgar scheme was specifically designed for the youth of tribal districts, where the interest-free loan would be provided to professionals and degree holders in erstwhile FATA to expand their businesses or start a business. The federal government has expressed surprise over the notice saying the scheme was already announced by the KP government and no new scheme has been announced.

Yesterday, the election commission has issued a notice to senior KP minister Muhammad Atif Khan for his visit to Kurram district where he announced three sports stadiums and other developmental projects.
