KARAK: People in Gurguri area of Karak have foiled a bid of an eloping boy and girl to enter the wedlock according to their own choice.
Police said a girl and a boy, who wanted to enter the wedlock, tried to elope from the village on Wednesday, but the villagers chased them and also tried to kill them. The couple had to take refuge in Gurguri Police Station to save their lives. However, the area people encircled the police station and demanded the police to hand over the girl and boy to them.
Police said they had to call additional personnel to Gurguri police station as they feared that the angry mob may kill the couple in the name of honour. After arrival of additional policemen, the people left the police station premises.
The boy, identified as Alif Khan, has been sent to the lock-up after filing of a case against him, while the girl has been shifted to a ‘safe’ location. Police said the location of the girl cannot be revealed due to sensitivity of the issue. The girl will be produced at a local court after improvement in the situation.
The area people said the girl belongs to Alora Bandai, while the boy belongs to Kurram Agency. They said the girl and boy started friendship on mobile phone.
