PESHAWAR, 27 November: England have defeated Pakistan by 14 runs in the first match of the three-match twenty20 series in Dubai.

England batted first after winning the toss on Thursday and gave target of 161 runs to Pakistan. England captain Eoin Morgan scored 45 runs and Billings scored 53 runs in just 25 balls.

After complete failure of Pakistan’s top and middle order, Anwar Ali, Wahab Riaz and Sohail Tanvir instilled some hope for Pakistan but they eventually fell short by 14 runs and all the wickets fell on 146 runs in the last over. Sohail Tanvir scored 25, Wahab Riaz made 21, Sohaib Maqsood scored 24 and Anwar Ali made 20 runs.

Rafatullah Mohmand, who became the oldest player to make debut in T-20 internationals, and Imran Khan from Peshawar also failed to show good performance. Two missed catches by Pakistan and a run out also contributed to Pakistan’s defeat.

The second match of the series will be played today (Friday) in Dubai at 9:00pm (PST).
