PESHAWAR, 5 November: For the first time in Pakistan’s history, a local court in Islamabad on Wednesday punished a person involved in blackmailing a girl on a social media website.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) says the accused, Aamir Qayyum Janjua, who was a bus conductor, befriended with a female student on a fake Facebook account and sent her a proposal for marriage. Upon refusal, the accused started blackmailing the girl and also shared her pictures on the website.

On the girl’s complaint, the FIA had arrested the accused and a court on Wednesday awarded him three years imprisonment and fine of Rs25,000.
