BARA: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Labour Wing Deputy General Secretary Lal Wali Afridi has asked the owners of the local industries to mend their ways by providing all facilities to labourers.

He has warned that he would lead thousands of labourers to block the Pak-Afghan Highway if no one paid heed to this request. Talking to journalists at Bara Press Club, Lal Wali Afridi said the Industries Union of Bara has no sympathy with labourers. He asked the factory owners around Bara to correct their state of affairs and stop playing with the lives of labourers.

The labour wing leader said minimum wage law must also be implemented in letter and spirit and all incentives like over-time, and all benefits must be provided to labourers.

Lal Wali said most of the labourers are overburdened by the factory owners, while they are underpaid as well. He said safety measures for labourers have not been adopted at the factories due to which they always work under dangerous circumstances. He said several incidents of injuries to labourers have been reported in factories, while the owners don’t take any steps for improving safety measures. He said the labourers will take to roads if their rights were usurped like this.

The local people said excessive load-shedding has caused water shortage problem in the area due to which they are facing a lot of difficulties. They said they have conveyed their problem to concerned authorities, but no one is taking action to resolve the problem. They said their protests will continue if the problem of load-shedding was not resolved. They demanded the local elected representatives to resolve the issue.
