ABBOTTABAD, 12 October: The federal government has announced Rs500,000 compensation for the families of each victim pilgrim of Mina stampede during Hajj.
Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Muhammad Yousaf told media persons in Abbottabad on Sunday that each injured pilgrim in the stampede will also get Rs300,000 compensation. The death of 97 Pakistani pilgrims has been confirmed so far in the Mina stampede. About 50 Pakistani pilgrims were also injured in the incident and several others are still missing. Search for the missing Pakistani pilgrims in Saudi Arabia is continuing and it is feared that the death toll may increase further.
Over 750 pilgrims lost their lives and 1,000 others sustained injures in the stampede in Mina during the ritual of hurling pebbles at the three pillars symbolising Shaitan (devil) during Hajj.
