JAMRUD, 25 May: Lawmakers from Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) have threatened to stage a sit-in in Islamabad if the problem of repatriation of internally displaced persons (IDPs) was not resolved forthwith.

FATA parliamentarian Al-Haj Shah Je Gul Afridi said at a press conference at his residence in Jamrud area of Khyber Agency yesterday that the proposed reduction in the FATA budget by the federal government this year is highly condemnable. FATA MNA Haji Nasir Khan, Senator Hilalur Rehman and Senator Momin Khan were also present during the press conference.

The tribal areas’ lawmakers said the government should have increased budget allocations for FATA owning to damages caused in the ongoing war in the region. They said it is highly disappointing that the government has reduced budget for FATA from Rs19 billion to Rs15 billion. They said the benefits of the allocated budget also did not reach the tribal population.

The FATA lawmakers threated during the press talk that they along with the tribal population will stage a sit-in in Islamabad if the IDPs were not repatriated honourably by 30 May.
