PESHAWAR, 26 October: A students convention was organised at the University of Peshawar on Thursday evening on FATA reforms.

The Islami Jamiat Tulaba (IJT) organised the convention which was attended by a large number of tribal students besides eminent journalists Saleem Safi and Adil Abbasi.

Adil Abbasi said the tribal people had been kept deprived of their basic rights since the last several decades. He said time has come to empower the FATA people to make their own decisions. Mr Abbasi said the government has always kept the issues of FATA on the backburner. He said the laws of Pakistan should also apply in the tribal areas.

Saleem Safi said a decision about merger of FATA with KP has been taken and the tribal people will soon hear good news in this regard. He said the JUI-F ameer Maulana Fazlur Rehman and PkMAP chairman Mahmood Khan Achakzai will never succeed in their objectives of blocking the merger.

“They (Achakzai and Fazlur Rehman) failed when the National Assembly’s Committee approved extension of the Supreme Court and High Court jurisdiction to FATA. The FATA people should have no doubt now that they cannot be enslaved by any one,” Mr Safi said.
