Raheem Shah Afridi advocate, president of the Fata Lawyers Forum

PESHAWAR, 18 September: To actively pursue the Fata reforms bill tabled in the National Assembly by the government and get it passed from the parliament, the alliance of political parties in Fata and the tribal lawyers have jointly started a campaign to amass the support of political leadership.

Raheem Shah Afridi advocate, president of the Fata Lawyers Forum, a representative body of tribal lawyers, told TNN that a delegation of the political alliance and tribal lawyers met with Jamaat-e-Islami central ameer Sirajul Haq and requested him to support the reforms bill.

“The meeting with Siraj ul Haq was very productive as he not only assured us of his support but also urged the federal government to complete the legislation as soon as possible,” Mr. Afridi informed.

He further said that they would also hold separate meetings with JUIF leader Maulana Fazal ur Rahman and Mehmood Khan Achakzai of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party and other political leaders.

“We will request all the political leadership to support the Fata reforms bill,” Afridi said and added, “majority of the political parties are supporting the bill, however, a fraction of PMLN’s leadership from Hazara division is opposing the bill and we will try to convince them.”

He maintained that they would continue meeting political leaders till they develop consensus on the bill.
