Akber said that the elders believe that Fata-KP merger has severely harmed local customs and values and hold him responsible for organizing youth for merging Fata with KP

JAMRUD: Anti-merger tribal elders of Khyber district have threatened to expel spokesperson of Fata Youth Jirga for his efforts for Fata Reforms.

Talking to TNN, Ali Akbar Afridi said that he came to know about the threats through his friends and social media.  Malik Salahuddin and Malik Faizullah Jan during a jirga held in Jamrud tehsil on Wednesday threatened to expell Akber Ali from the district and even burn his house if he failed to answer some questions regarding his active role in Fata reforms process.

Akber said that the elders believe that Fata-KP merger has severely harmed local customs and values and hold him responsible for organizing youth for merging Fata with KP.

It merits a mention here that Akbar Ali associated with PPP students wing was an active member of Fata Youth Jirga who played active role in organizing youth to garner support for Fata reforms.

There were some groups that were against the reforms including maliks who receive perks and privileges from the government and most of them lost their funds after Fata was merged with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Amber Ali said that he has not been summoned by the elders as yet.

Experts say that after merger of Fata with KP, tribal elders have lost all their powers and they are not in a position anymore to expel or demolish the house of someone involved in voilations of customs as they did in the past.
