PESHAWAR, 12 December: The committee established by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for reforms in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) has decided to ascertain the viewpoint of the tribal population over the reforms.

Decision to this effect was taken during a meeting of the FATA Reforms Committee headed by Prime Minister’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz at the Foreign Office in Islamabad on Friday. The Members of National Assembly and Senators from FATA also attended the meeting.

The meeting decided that phase wise meetings will be held with delegations of FATA elders, Ulema, doctors, lawyers, political leaders and other experts to ascertain their viewpoint on FATA reforms. The process of consultations will begin next month for which the FATA Reforms Committee members will stay at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor House for 10 days.

Recommendations will be compiled after thorough consultations which will be made part of the FATA Reforms Bill already in place in the National Assembly. The FATA lawmakers have also been declared members of the FATA reforms committee informally.
