PESHAWAR, 01 December: Government schools teachers throughout the FATA have threatened to stage sit-in on Constitution Avenue if their demands were not met by December 7.
As a first phase of their protest drive, teachers of all government schools in Fata boycotted classes on Tuesday. They have been demanding upgradation of their posts. Teachers were wearing black armbands as sign of protest.
A protest demonstration was held by the All Fata Teachers Association in Parang subdivision of Mohmand Agency. The protesting teachers were of the view that posts of teachers in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had been upgraded while those working in Fata were not given their due rights.
“The Fata education department is being governed by the provincial government. The government has upgraded the posts of teachers working in the settled districts but we were only given assurances,” complained one of the protesters.
He further explained that according to their service structure, they came under the provincial service, but “when we demand our rights, we are told that we come under the federal government,” he added.
“How a teacher would concentrate on educating his students if he is not given his due rights,” another protester questioned.
