PESHAWAR, 05 December: Fata teachers have announced to close educational institutions and move to Islamabad for a grand sit-in as their boycott of classes entered into fifth consecutive day on Saturday.

The Fata teachers have been holding rallies in different agencies and FRs to press the government for the acceptance of their longstanding demand of implementation of service structure.

On Saturday, they held a protest rally outside of the office of Education Officer in FR Bannu.

“Boycott of classes will continue till 7th of this month and if our demands are not accepted, we will start the third phase of our protest movement and will shut down all educational institutions across the Fata and move on to Islamabad for a grand sit-in,” Salim Khan, president of a local association of Fata teachers told TNN after the rally.

He threatened that the sit-in would continue till the acceptance of their demands.

The protesting teachers alleged that the government had adopted a discriminatory attitude towards them. “The teachers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were granted time scale promotion from July 2012 but we have been deprived of our rights despite the fact that we have been doing our job in more hostile conditions,” said another protesting teacher.

He further said that the Fata teachers would also boycott of polio duties, census and other responsibilities until their demands were not met.
