FDMA announces release of Rs520m for North Waziristan TDPs

PESHAWAR: Fata Disaster Management Authority on Wednesday announced to release Rs520 million for financial assistance of displaced families in North Waziristan tribal district.

Dr Sohail Khan, Director FDMA, said that registered TDPs of North Waziristan would be given three-month instalments of Rs 36000 simultaneously.

He added that the fund was released while keeping in view the plights of TDPs. “The amount will help TDPs buy some warm clothes as well as fulfill other needs for of daily use,” he said.

He added that efforts were being made to facilitate them and rehabilitation work would be started once their repatriation is completed.

The amount was released after the Temporarily Displaced families living in Bakakhel camp in Bannu threatened to stage a protest demonstration against FATA Disaster Management Authority (FDMA) for non-payment of four-month relief stipend.

Around 800 displaced families of North Waziristan tribal district who have returned from Afghanistan to Bakakhel Camp in Janikhel sub division of Bannu, complained that they had not been paid Rs12000 monthly stipend for last four months which is provided to other TDPs from North Waziristan in the camp.
