PESHAWAR: Coronavirus cases have witnessed a quick increase during its third wave in Pakistan after which the vaccination process has also been stepped up.
Vaccination was offered to the frontline health workers in the first phase, while vaccination for senior citizens was started in March in the second phase and third phase for citizen above 50 years of age is also about to commence. At present, only the citizens above the age of 60 have been registered for vaccination.
According to the administration of Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) Peshawar, as many as 3,301 members of the health staff and senior citizens have been administered corona vaccine in the LRH. These include 1,586 members of health staff who have undergone first dose of vaccine, 893 others who have administered second dose and 822 senior citizens.
Dr Muhammad Zubair Bhatti from LRH Peshawar, who is focal person for Corona Vaccination Centre, Sinopharm vaccine has been received from China which is being provided to Pakistani citizens free of cost. He said the process for vaccination is very easy as one has to send his computerised national identity card (CNIC) number on 1166 without space and he/she would receive a message of registration with vaccination centre name and date.
Dr Zubair said over 4,000 people have been administered corona vaccine in the hospital so far, but no complaint of adverse reaction has been received. “We stop people for 30 minutes in the hospital after vaccination just as a precautionary measure,” he said.
Dr Zubair said a person undergoing vaccination may feel a bit of headache or fever, but that should not be a cause of worry because it signifies that the vaccine has started its work. He said the second dose of the vaccine is administered 21 days after the first dose. He said the vaccine is safe and everyone must administer it.
Bakhtiar Khan, a senior citizen from Lalazar Colony in Peshawar, said doctors checked him and then asked him to take some rest on the bed after undergoing vaccination. He said he did not feel any discomfort during vaccination.
Bakhtiar Khan said he would like to advise every senior citizen to undergo vaccination and save them and others from the dangerous disease.
