Few anti-state elements luring dignified tribesmen: PM

PESHAWAR: Prime Minister Imran Khan has condemned the terrorist attack on the security forces in North Waziristan in which four military officers lost their lives.

“Deeply saddened to learn of the shahadat of 3 officers &1 soldier from a terrorist-planted IED blast in Kharkamar, N.Waziristan. My condolences to the families of the Shuhada & prayers for recovery of the injured,” the prime minister said on Twitter.

The premier said few anti-state elements are luring dignified tribesmen and the state will not tolerate such segments to destroy peace in the region.

“I salute the sacrifices & bravery of our soldiers in keeping us safe. The whole nation stands behind them,” he said.

The premier expressed condolence with families of martyred soldiers and prayed for early recovery of wounded personnel in the attack. He paid rich tribute to sacrifices of Pakistan armed forces for establishing peace in the tribal region.

Earlier, President Arif Alvi also strongly condemned the blast in North Waziristan.

President Alvi said in a statement that the miscreants were against the restoration of peace in the area, nevertheless, the nation was united against terrorist elements.

He prayed that Almighty Allah rest the departed souls in eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved families to bear the loss with equanimity.

Four officers of the Pakistan Army were martyred in a blast in Khar Kamar area of North Waziristan on Friday. Four soldiers also sustained injuries when their vehicle was targeted by militants through an improvised explosive device (IED), said the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The martyred officers include Lieutenant Colonel Rashid Karim Baig, resident of Karimabad, Hunza; Major Moeez Maqsood Baig, resident of Karachi, Captain Arifullah, resident of Lakki Marwat, and Lance Havaldar Zaheer, resident of Chakwal.

The attack happened in Boya area where the situation is already tense after the May 26 tragedy.

“This is the same area where forces had conducted search operations and arrested a few facilitators,” the ISPR statement said. The security forces have cordoned off the area and started search operation.

Just a day before Friday’s attack, two Frontier Corps soldiers were martyred in a firing incident in Balochistan’s Harnai district.
