PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Shaukat Yousafzai said on Thursday said a handful of people were protesting against merger of erstwhile Fata with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under a foreign agenda.
In a statement, the minister said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government was pursuing the process of merger with a rapid pace. He said the decision of the merger was taken with the support of majority of people of the tribal districts, but a few people, who were benefiting from the old system, are now putting hindrances in the merger process to protect their own interests.
Mr Yousafzai said the provincial government will focus on provision of health and education facilities in the tribal districts after the merger and provision of quick and inexpensive justice will also be ensured. He said the scope of dispute resolution committees will also be extended to the tribal districts to resolve issues according to tribal traditions.
