UPPER DIR, 22 November: Fire has erupted in Kalkot forest in Upper Dir which has engulfed about a kilometre area.

The local people said the long dry spell caused the fire which affected the precious forest trees and wildlife. Police, Levies personnel and local people are trying to douse the fire, but it was not extinguished till filing of this report and further losses are feared.

Fire incidents were also reported this month in the forests of Barawal and Karo Darra.
