Dengue fever on rise in KP

JAMRUD: First ever casualty of dengue reported from Jamrud tehsil of Khyber district on Thursday where a 50-year old woman die of dengue, health officials confirm.

Besides, more than 200 people have been tested positive with dengue that assumed shape of an epidemic, forcing the district administration to impose dengue emergency.

TNN correspondent reported that Shagufta was admitted to Khyber Teaching Hospital few days ago after she tested positive with dengue where she breathed her last.

Doctors at the hospital said that most cases were being reported from Jamrud where the government has apparently failed to contain the outbreak.

Agency Surgeon Dr Shafiq said that awareness drive regarding dengue cost more than its treatment as the Khyber district government has been spending Rs0.2 million on awareness campaigns.

Meanwhile, another case was reported from Nowshera where 30-year old Nabiullah was admitted to Qazi Hussain Ahmad Medical Complex after doctors diagnosed him with dengue fever.

Health officials urged masses to take precautionary measures as care was better than cure.
