PESHAWAR, 25 November: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Local Government Minister Inayatullah Khan said on Tuesday that the first phase of distribution of compensation among the 26 October earthquake will be completed tomorrow (Thursday).

Addressing the KP Assembly session, the minister said the owners of damaged houses will get compensation cheques by Thursday, while the provincial government will also make an appeal for help to the international humanitarian organisations for rehabilitation of the quake affected people.

Mr Inayatullah told the provincial assembly that compensation cheques have been given to the heirs of 223 people who were killed in the quake. He said 225 people lost their lives in the 26 October quake in KP.

The minister said compensation has also been paid to 90 percent injured people and the owners of 53,000 damaged houses. According to Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), over 92,000 houses have been damaged in the quake. Mr Inayatullah said the quake affected people who were not included in the survey may submit fresh applications for their inclusion in the lists of compensation.
