PESHAWAR, October 29: Five more children have fallen victims to polio in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA region.
The National Institute of Health says three of the latest victims hail from Khyber Agency and one each from Frontier Region Bannu and Charsadda.
With the fresh cases, the number of polio-affected children in Pakistan has reached 227 this year.
In view of the increasing polio cases in the country, the Prime Minister, Mr Nawaz Sharif, has written to the chief ministers of all the four provinces to strengthen their efforts for elimination of the poliovirus.
The prime minister says that if the polio was not immediately controlled, the poliovirus may increase by 10 times in the country.
The World Health Organisation has already imposed travel restriction on Pakistanis, asking them to produce polio vaccination certificates before going abroad.
