PESHAWAR, September 24: Five more polio cases have been reported in Pakistan, including two from tribal areas and one each from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and Balochistan provinces.
According to the National Institute of Health, four-year-old Ms Sadia of Bara, Khyber Agency, nine-month-old Abdul Ms Samad of Razmak, North Waziristan and eight-month-old Mr Muhammad Talha of Tank are the latest victims of the crippling disease. All the three victims have never received any dose of polio vaccines.
One child has been diagnosed with polio in Karachi despite being vaccinated three times.
Another polio case has surfaced in Quetta, Balochistan. The number of polio cases in Pakistan has reached 171 this year. The World Health Organisation has notified recently that this year about 83% polio cases all over the world have been reported from Pakistan.
