CHITRAL, August 7: Owing to raise in water level of River Chitral, the flood has damaged the Mastuj Road, which connects upper and lower parts of the mountainous district.
TNN correspondent says the district jail, government food godown, Professional Development Center of Agha Khan University, a graveyard and several houses were at risk due to floods.
The District Food Controller of Chitral, Mr Sher Fayaz Khan, says wheat was usually supplied to upper areas of Chitral in September. He added that authorities would face problems in supplying wheat to upper parts of Chitral after flood washed away a portion of the main road.
“Up to 75% people are living across this road, which connects the people to other areas of Pakistan. If this route was cut off, it would create severe problems for people of Chitral. The provincial government must solve this problem as soon as possible,” he added.
Local residents say water flow of the river should be diverted to another direction to save the road from floods.
