PESHAWAR, 25 July: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information Mushtaq Ghani has said that flooding in Chitral has so far killed six persons and inflicted over a billion rupees loss.

Talking to media-persons at Garam Chashma in Chitral yesterday, the minister said that the flashfloods have affected around 300,000 people, completely damaging 160 houses and 50 partially.

He said that floods have badly affected the main roads of Boni and Garam Chashma, adding that work on rehabilitation of these road links has been started.

He added that the floods washed away nine irrigation channels and over 60 drinking water schemes. The provincial government would make serious endeavours to rehabilitate these schemes in six months, he assured.

Standing crops on 1,200 acres land have also been destroyed while potato and wheat crops cannot be transported down the country due to absence of road links.
