After quitting militancy, Malik Wali Khan started attending local Jirgas to resolve disputes and he wielded considerable influence in the area.
However no group or individual claimed responsibility for his killing as yet.
Several people who quit militancy in Janikhel and other parts of erstwhile FATA were targeted by the Taliban militants from time to time.
A former Taliban commander Abaseen and his driver killed were killed in a roadside explosion in Charmang area of district Bajaur on November 22, 2018.
Banned TTP claimed responsibility for the attack saying Abaseen was targeted because he surrendered to authorities and would spy for security agencies against Taliban and guard fencing of the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
