KHAR: A former Taliban commander and his driver killed after their vehicle was hit by a roadside explosion in Charmang area of district Bajaur on Wednesday.
Tehsildar Abdul Haseeb told Tribal News Network that Amanullah and Gul Badin alias Abseen who was ex-commander of Tehirk-e-Taliban Pakistan, were travelling in their vehicle at around 5 pm when their vehicle was targeted with remote controlled explosive device placed on roadside in Charmang Chinar village in Nawagai tehsil of Bajaur. The blast not only killed the two persons on board but also destroyed the vehicle. Subsequently security forces launched search operation in the area but made no arrest till the filing of this story.
Banned TTP in a statement issued to the media claimed responsibility for the attack saying Abaseen, who was ex commander of the militants’ group, was targeted because he surrendered to authorities and would spy for security agencies against Taliban and guard fencing of the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The spokesman of TTP Muhammad Khurasani warned that all the militants surrendered to authorities would be eliminated one by one. He claimed that Abaseen and his three guards were killed in the attack. However local administration could only confirm death of two people in the blast.
Several local people mainly elders have been targeted by Taliban with remote controlled explosion in Bajaur. Tehsildar Haseebullah said investigation was underway in the case.
